Apart from the new Pixel phones and Chromecast Ultra, Google also announced a new WiFi router and the new Google Home. It seems that the search giant is serious with building us smarter homes. If you may remember, Google Home was introduced a few months ago to take on the Amazon Echo and Alexa. The tear-shaped device doubles as a home decor but you will appreciate it more as a voice assistant and a control system for the home.
Google Home is another attempt by the company to take over our homes. It can be integrated with several media services like Google Play Music, YouTube Music, iHeartRadio, Pandora, TuneIn, and Spotify. You can say “OK Google, play this song from this album” and the device will do so for you acting as speakers.
Design-wise, Google Home looks like a vase you can display around the house. On top of the item is a touch panel where you can adjust the volume. You will see some lights and a couple of microphone holes. Four speakers can be found at the bottom of Google Home, so you can use it as a reliable audio system. At present, Google Home connects with IFTTT, Samsung SmartThings, Nest, and Philips Hue. You have many options for the metal bases and fabric.
Google Home will be available for $129 USD. Access to YouTube Red is free for the next six months. You can pre-order for one now on Amazon, Best Buy, Google Store, Target, and Walmart. Shipping will commence on November 4.
Google WiFi is a new router that allows you to pair and integrate with other routers. It makes network management at home easier while it works to enhance Internet signal. With Google WiFi, a smart home owner can have control over the connection. It aims to maintain strong signals while making it easier for you to control the router system with a companion app.
Google WiFi will be sold for the same price of $129 but you can get three for $299 in one pack. Google Store online is expected to list the item by December.
