LINE update brings 24-hour posts, video call effects, hashtag search

Messaging apps these days have to be more than just about sending messages to family and friends. With intense competition, they need to have features that will attract the most discerning of users, as well as stand out from their peers. LINE’s attempt to bring new features in their latest update, version 6.8.0, isn’t really something groundbreaking, but for already existing users, the addition of self-destructing posts, video call effects, and something as simple as a hashtag search, can be pretty beneficial.

Time-bound posts and messages aren’t really something new, but now, it has made its way to LINE. If something that you want to post on your timeline is something that you think will be of no use to you after 24 hours, then you can now put a self-destruct timer on it. Just simply tap the clock icon when you post so it will be gone after a day. Searching for timeline posts is also now easier, as long as people use hashtags. Just go to the search button on the top right of the timeline screen and type in the word you’re looking for and all public posts that used the hashtag will appear.

If you haven’t tried video calling yet on LINE, maybe the new feature will be incentive enough for you. You will now be able to put video effects while you’re on a call through the emoticons at the bottom of your screen. You can even add filters while you’re on the call to make your face and background a little more stylish. Other new features with the update include scrolling horizontally to see a digested version of suggested Timeline posts (similar to Twitter), linking to individual Timeline posts, save drafts of posts you don’t want to make public yet, and trimming images before sending to your chats.

You can update your LINE app through its Google Play page. Expect more interesting features over the next few months as the battle for the best messaging app continues.
