Users of Sony’s 2016 flagship – the Sony Xperia X Performance – have reportedly been suffering from an issue where the accelerometer of the device will suddenly just stop working. The Sony support forums have been burning up with complaints on this issue, and it’s good that Sony is planning to resolve this soon.
At the moment, the only solution for Sony Xperia X Peroformance users appears to be rebooting the device, and they will get the use of the accelerometer back. The issue probably shows that there is some part of the code that is making the element in question stop working, and the fact that Sony is responding with a patch means this probably is a software issue rather than a hardware one.
Here is Sony’s statement, given by an official support person of the company:
“I’d like to say thanks to everyone who send us logs of this and again apologize for any inconvenience this is causing. I’ve just received information that a new software update will be available shortly with a solution for this. Until the new software update is available, if the accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, ambient light, proximity sensor, barometer or screen rotation stops responding, please try to restart the phone as a workaround.”
There is no date for the future update, although we hope it will be soon. In the meantime, doing a power cycle on the device seems to be the quickest resolution to the issue.
