The mobile carrier posted an official statement on its Facebook page as confirmation that they are aware of the problem and that there are actions being made at present. The particular issue has something to do with stealing smartphones from Three. Most are high-end devices but the company is assuring the public that they are doing everything in their power.

We’re aware of an attempted fraud issue regarding upgrade devices and are working with police and relevant authorities on the matter. The objective was to steal high-end smartphones from Three, but we’ve already put measures in place to stop the fraudulent activity. We’d like to reassure customers that their financial details are not at risk. We are investigating how many customers are affected and will be contacting them as soon as possible. We’ll update with further information once we have this.
Three UK has assured mobile customers that their important financial details have not been compromised. They’re not at risk but if you’re one of them, expect to receive a notification from the company soon. Investigations are already underway so there’s nothing to worry about.
